Smartphones with data plans are getting popular and one of the useful features of mobile phones is the ability to read QR Codes using apps like Google Goggles. A QR code is a two dimensional image that has a pattern made up of small squares. It is similar to a bar code that is used in supermarkets to look up the price of the item you are buying. QR code is short for quick response code and this technology was developed by an automotive factory to help it manage inventory of parts in the production line. It has since gained popularity with mobile devices because it can store hundreds of characters in one image. The Goggles app can interpret the characters and will show the user a URL to the website represented by the QR code. Companies with websites should take advantage of this feature because it helps the smartphone user quickly go to a website showing a promotion or useful information about the company. The user doesn’t have to type all the characters. Imagine a potential customer passing by your store and sees a promo on the door. Because he is in a hurry, he scans the QR code at your store window and plans to read the information on your website at a later time. Interested in how a QR code works?
