WordPress Community releases WordPress version 3.0

The WordPress Community released WordPress Version 3.0, the latest release of the very popular content management system that allows web developers to deploy websites quickly. The release was a culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors which included 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements. The new version includes the merge of WordPress-MU and WordPress. WordPress-MU is the multi-user version of WordPress and the merge means that WordPress may now be used to run multi-user websites instead of WordPress-MU. Also included is a new theme, called Twenty Ten, that features the various options available on the new revision. A new addition that will help content developers is the custom post type that the administrator can define. This allows types of posts with specific fields to be implemented rather than one type of post with different fields to fill up depending on what type of post you want to publish. WordPress users are encouraged to upgrade their installations to take advantage of WP’s new features. Share...

TechTalk: DYWC launches Worldwide Broadcast Enabled by Auza.Net

DYWC, a popular AM radio station in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, launched the station’s worldwide broadcast on June 13, 2010 during its annual fiesta pontifical mass held in honor of its patron saint San Antonio de Padua. Auza.Net enabled the wordwide broadcast using the same technologies implemented for the local radio station DYRD-AM. Although currently still on test broadcast, it already has received several happy comments from its listeners who are abroad or in other parts of the Philippines. Station manager Fr. Ramonito Maata and Bishop John F. Du of the Dumaguete diocese invited all listeners worldwide of DYWC’s flagship program ‘Bandilyo’ to tune in to the broadast on its website www.dywc801.com. Listeners from UK, New York, California, Las Vegas, Sydney, Texas, Cavite, Cebu and other places around the world have posted comments on the website expressing their appreciation of DYWC’s worldwide broadcast which has made them feel like they are close to their home province. Auza.Net used open source software to implement the audio streaming technology on a Linux based CPU. It also used cloud computing technology to implement a very reliable streaming server capable of handling several simultaneous users. Since the streaming server is located in the US, most listeners in the US are able to listen to the broadcast with minimal or no buffering at all. The whole system is packaged by Auza.Net as a turnkey solution for radio stations who want to implement its very own worldwide broadcast. By using a VPN or virtual private network system, the company is able to remotely manage the streaming CPU allowing the radio station to focus on its broadcasting...

Tech Talk: Auza.Net Culminates Summer 2010 OJT Program

Auza.Net ends this year’s summer OJT program with a simple ceremony held at the Auza.Net main office with the 15 trainees receiving certificates of completion. The program included about two months of on-the-job training on Linux, Google Apps, web development, content entry and a bit of photography. In his inspirational speech, Jerome Auza, the technology consultant of Auza.Net, congratulated the students for successfully completing the OJT program. He said that the things they have learned during the training should be shared with others to help spread the skills and knowledge to more students to prepare for future jobs. He also encouraged them to use their skills so they could earn money to help support their final year in college. The trainees tackled different website projects covering different aspects of website implementation such as data collection, design and implementation of WordPress themes as well as content development. Some of these websites will be released for public use later this year, adding to the company’s portfolio of free online information websites. Previous OJT programs yielded successful projects that are now used commercially such as the DYRD-AM Worldwide Broadcast via media streaming technology (www.dyrdam.com), Bohol News Daily (www.boholnewsdaily.com) and Bohol Classified Ads (www.boholclassifiedads.com).
