Microsoft has announced its acquisition of the popular Internet telephone service Skype Technologies from eBay last Tuesday, May 10. Also acquired were a group of private equity investors including Silicon Valley tech moguls, the Silver Lake Partners. This deal is the largest Microsoft has ever gotten into in its 36-year long history. According to Microsoft’s press release, the deal will extend Skype’s brand and reach of its networked platform, while enhancing Microsoft’s present portfolio of real-time communications products. However, The Daily Ticker’s Aaron Task and Daniel Gross discussed that Skype makes no significant profit. So why did Microsoft spend almost 10 billion dollars for a company that doesn’t improve its revenue? The Daily Ticker’s answer is short. Its because Microsoft just has too many cash that it has just decided to buy Skype. Nevertheles, even without a significant improvement in profit, Skype’s tehnology can definitely help improve Microsoft’s suite of services making it level with its competitors Apple and Google. The speaker, U.S. – based Mr. Noel Temena lectured on the topic via Skype. Mr. Noel Temena is from the company Isolation IQ, also known as fault isolation intelligence. This company measures tactical troubleshooting efficiency and mastery, and their ratings are given to technical analysts and members of S.W.A.T. Teams who deal with technical issues and outages. The discussion revolved around how to isolate the problem among various possible faults involved in the IT industry from hardware to software, and eventually finding the solution in a quick and efficient manner. Another group of successful examinees has emerged during the recent Master Electrician Licensure Examinations held last April 19, 2011. After two weeks of discussions on various topics, Auza.Net’s On the Job Trainees have been given their first batch of online projects and assignments. They are being challenged to create and maintain their own blogs and at the same time, learn how to post website content on WordPress sites. A task to look for possible clients and to speak to them, are also being pushed, as part of their effective communication and marketing training. There will be continued efforts from the trainors to hone the skills of the trainees as well as provide them with ample knowledge for their chosen field. Guest speakers for specific niches are also being worked out for a maximized learning experience for the trainees. Auza.Net has observed that as the sessions progressed, changes and developments in the trainees’ skills, knowledge and confidence with themselves are being more and more noticeable. And this observation has made trainors all the more eager to impart much-needed training. Such are the times that we really find modern technology and the internet a huge help in communicating with our loved ones, especially those who are working abroad or at sea. As part of its efforts in guiding members of the Catholic church, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines or CBCP has specially developed a website called Visita Iglesia, which can be viewed at www.visitaiglesia.net. The site is dedicated to overseas workers and seafarers who find it very difficult to maintain their spiritual needs due to the lack of churches, the prevailing traditions and religion in their work area, or because of lack of time. It is also useful for the elderly and the sick who would want to visit churches and pray, but could not because of their condition. The online Visita Iglesia offers options such as Catechesis, the Seven Last Words, Pasyon, Liturgical celebrations, Homilies and also answers Frequently Asked Questions on their FAQ’s page. It is however, not a replacement to actually going to places of prayer and meditation. Msgr. Pedro C. Auza.Net’s new and improved Summer On-the-Job Training Program is set to start this Monday, at 9 o’clock in the morning. Interested enrollees can come to the K of C Recreation Center and register for the 300-hour revamped training program that is unique among the IT industry in Bohol. For those who missed our previous article, Auza.Net has developed a new training program that aims to bridge the gap between school and employment. Auza.Net’s line up of topics include computer skills, network theory, Linux and open source applications, website and online store development, structured cabling, technical communications, network security, tactical troubleshooting and more. The module aims to instill knowledge and skill to the students not only of the foundations of their course, but the real-life trends in their chosen field as well. The company is also accepting instructors who would like to broaden their knowledge and skills in their fields so that they can impart more lessons to their students. Auza.Net has started its OJT program last April 11, 2011 with a total of 11 trainees. Among them, three are undergoing the sessions for free because of their above average performance in previously conducted skills tests. The trainee’s program director has started giving them tasks and exercises in order to improve their present skills, and Engr Jerome Auza has already conducted a few sessions to increase and develop their knowledge in Linux commands. This week, the trainees will move on to more complex discussions and will, at the same time continue practicing what they have learned for the past week, such as touch typing, speed typing and developing greater comprehension for the english language. When a student graduates from his chosen field, he may be equipped with all necessary theories as imparted by their schools, but there will always be that space in between graduation and employment. This space is a hallow resulting from the student’s inexperience in the actual world. Auza.Net’s objective is to fill this gap, using its improved training module, which should make the trainee more than ready to face the real world. Auza.Net has received numerous OJT applicants for the 2011 Summer OJT Program. Last week, a mass interview was conducted at the K of C Recreation Center. Out of the 72 applicants, only 32 were actually interviewed. Series of short skill tests were performed by the applicants from english skills to basic software and networking. Out of the individual results and scores, four were chosen to be the Summer OJT Training Program “scholars”. OJT applicants Jay Paul Aying (University of Bohol); Zosie May Ornido (BISU – Calape); Erwin Labor (BISU – Main); and Princess Malou Longjas (BISU – Main) were chosen based on their performance in the series of short skills tests and interview that were conducted.
