Last Sunday we talked about the pros and cons of the new Google +. This new social community is Google’s challenge to Facebook. Then just as Google+ was probably warming up, Facebook comes in with another just-stay-with-me-and-not-google+ feature, — the integrated video calling and the conference chat. For the past week or so, Google+ users have been enjoying simple, streamlined group video chat by using the new social network’s Hangout feature. But in a feat not to be outdone by the spry newcomer, Facebook revealed its own video chat service, powered by the Microsoft-owned Skype platform. The new video chat option works with Facebook’s already popular chat feature, allowing anyone with a webcam and a Facebook account to communicate face-to-face. How to activate it? Select the video option at the top of the chat window. You will then be prompted to download and install the software that powers the feature. After installation, a single click brings up a video chat window with your conversation partner, with no need to launch a separate program. Facebook has also introduced a group chat option for those who prefer the text-based chat format. A new icon on the chat window allows you to add additional friends to whatever conversations you already have going. Meanwhile, the Group video chat, which Google+’s Hangout feature excels at, isn’t yet a part of the new rollout, but when asked about the possibility, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted “I wouldn’t rule anything out.” Accompanying the new chat features is a redesigned Facebook chat sidebar which appears and adjusts itself to match your window width whenever there is enough...

Google has finally unveiled Google+, the company’s social layer that turns all of the search engine into one giant social network. Google+, which begins rolling out a very limited field test, is the culmination of a year-long project led by Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of social. The project, is Google’s answer to Facebook. The search giant’s new social project will be omnipresent on its products, thanks to a complete redesign of the navigation bar. The familiar gray strip at the top of every Google page will turn black, and come with several new options for accessing your Google+ profile, viewing notifications and instantly sharing content. The notification system is similar to how Facebook handles notifications, complete with a red number that increases with each additional notice. Here are some of its Pro’s and Con’s Pro: -Sleek User Interface Many Google+ users commented on the sleekness of its UI. It’s clean, it’s easy-to-use and its not cluttered. This is because of Andy Hertzfeld, one of the original designers of the Apple Macintosh GUI. Google gave him free reign in designing the Google+ UI. The UI is better than most Google products. It’s not only clean and easy to understand, but it has character and flavor (you’ll notice it when adding or removing people from circles). Their bet on Hertzfeld paid off. Con: – Noise in the Stream Google+ is designed to minimize noise in the stream through the use of circles, but it’s still too noisy for most users. The big issue is that posts are pushed to the top whenever...

There’s quite a new word circulating these days, and it involves getting more viewers to your website. Whether you want more readers to your blog, or to just promote your products online, the word SEO — which means Search Engine Optimization will definitely be a big plus for you. Here’s why: When internet first made its appearance on the face of the earth, things were not as easy and simple as it is today. Finding information from the vast ocean of the internet was a tough job. The concept of search engines was just taking shape and SEO was something unheard of. Useful and relevant information was often found to be hidden in some deep corner of the internet far from the view of the users for whom essentially the information was developed in the first place. This however has all changed dramatically over the past few years. The use of good SEO marketing services and the efficiency of search engines in better usage of keywords have resulted in information being available on the tips of the users’ fingers within a few seconds. Blog posting sites, social networking sites and common user groups are all steps leading to the direction of enabling easier access to information by all concerned. The concept of search engine optimization is built around a set of complex algorithms used by search engine websites. They dig and crawl into almost each and every website that is available on the internet, based on the keyword used by a prospective customer. Search engine technology today has become highly developed and there is a vast pool of SEO...
