Despite many types of tablets that have now been released in the country, only very few can compete with the Apple iPad. At least that’s until we found out about the 10.1-inch Android Tablets from Asus. These tablets are to be available in the country soon in order to rival with the iPad. It’s officially called the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101. From reviews that we have viewed on the internet, including the source mentioned, this new tablet may well not be like the sexy Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but this tablet has a few ups that is worth oggling into. First, is its design, this gadget has a keyboard dock, which basically turns your tablet into a sort of Android netbook and what’s even more swell is that it can almost double the battery life, and of course, gives you a keyboard. Design The Asus Transformer is wider, and thicker that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but, in a sea of white and black tablets, it’s color, which is copper, is a stand-out. It also has speakers on both ends of the tablet. Because of its width, it’s meant to be used in landscape mode. On the left is the power and volume buttons. On the right is the 3.5mm audio jack, a miniHDMI port and a microSD slot which is quite rare in quality tablets. Underside you will see the proprietary port for charging and data transfer. Apple’s board of directors announced last Wednesday that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer. Together with the big news is the naming of Tim Cook, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer as the new CEO. Jobs however is not permanently leaving the company as he has been immediately elected as the President of the Board of Directors. Jobs was like Apple’s secret weapon. Most articles have named him as the Silicon Valley’s master inventor and master marketer. Indeed, ever since Jobs was brought back to the walls of Apple, the company has only been increasing its sales and its over-all value, not to mention the company being turned into a worldwide leader in technology development. The CEO that Apple will always be indebted for, had humble beginnings. Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 to unwed parents and was later on adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs. In college, he dropped out of and worked at Atari Inc. as a video game designer. During that time he met Steve Wozniak an employee of Hewlett-Packard and head of Homebrew Computer Club. When Wozniak’s logic board design was rejected by HP, both Steves decided to work on the very first Apple Computer and the rest is history. Job’s resignation is largely due to his health condition, and people have been having mixed reactions. On August 20, 2011, the website PRCPassers.com, one of Auza.Net’s free online services, published the results of the July 2011 Nurse Licensure Examination. Being the 2nd website to publish the results, the first being the official PRC website, PRCPassers.com generated a massive spike in website traffic which was equivalent to about 150 times the normal traffic it would get in recent weeks. Being hosted on Auza.Net’s Cloud Site Web Server, a service that automatically scales up the capacity of the server as needed, the website endured the spike with flying colors. During the 24 hours after the results were published, PRCPassers generated about 150,000 pageviews when normally only just about 1,000 pageviews would be generated. This was an unprecedented event for Auza.Net. The last traffic surge happened on DYRDAM.com and BoholNewsDaily.com during the May 2010 elections but the surge was just a mere 20 times normal daily traffic. Auza.Net uses the same cloud site web server for all its website management service clients allowing the company to guarantee that in case the client’s website become popular, it will stay up and running. This is much unlike the “unlimited” web hosting services offered by other companies which are really limited and would shutdown a website that would generate massive traffic. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announces that 37,513 out of 78,135 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given by the Board of Nursing in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, La Union, Legazpi, Lucena, Nueva Ecija, Pagadian, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga last July 2011. For nearly three decades, personal computer makers thrived by building their PCs around two key ingredients: Intel chips and Microsoft Windows. Now, it looks like the partnership is finally winding down. Last Thursday, Hewlett-Packard announced that it is taking a hatchet to its business and doing some radical restructuring. The company is looking to spin off its industry-leading but struggling personal computer business. HP also killed off the TouchPad tablet it launched last month, as well as its webOS smartphone line. Yes, it is quite a shocking news, but according to analysts, it was an expected move since the market has steadily gone down due to the advent of laptops, smartphones and the evolutionary tablet computers. Added to these latest gadgets are new innovations in web applications and Cloud storage. Consumers are significantly rethinking the concept of a computer and it is not doing any favors for the PC. Aside from that bold step of leaving the PC manufacturing world, HP also said it has agreed to buy British software developer Autonomy for roughly $10.2 billion in cash. At $42.11 per share, the purchase price represents a 58% premium over the company’s average share price over the past month. Autonomy specializes in database search and other enterprise software technologies. HP CEO Leo Apotheker said that the moves will squarely position HP in software and in information to create the next generation information platform. Experts from the McAffee security company have recently discovered the biggest cyber attack in history. The networks of 72 organisations including the United Nations, governments and companies around the world have been infiltrated by a yet unknown source. However, security experts from McAffee believe that evidence that has been uncovered so far, has pointed to one “state actor” and that is China. But they are yet to do further investigations to conclude their present findings. The infiltration of the systems lasted for a total of five years with some companies, countries and organizations being hacked for a year, while others for just a few months. The long list of victims in the five-year campaign include the governments of the US, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Canada; the Association of South-east Asian Nations ; the International Olympic Committee (IOC); the World Anti-Doping Agency; and an array of companies from defence contractors to high-tech enterprises. McAfee learned of the extent of the hacking campaign in March this year when its researchers discovered logs of the attacks while reviewing the contents of a “command and control” server that they had discovered in 2009 as part of an investigation into security breaches at defence companies. The still unknown hackers gathered pertinent data from the 72 victims, and while the experts still don’t know where these data are going, or what there use will be, the damage of the cyber attack has resulted to massive economic threat. Kids and teens these days are way too advanced for their age. Maybe its the food they eat, the atmosphere of competence even in early age, or just the genes slowly morphing into highly-advanced creatures. Whatever the reason is, it is now common that 2-3 year olds can already operate a computer, and teenagers more tech savvy than the general adult population. And where do they get the information? Mostly television for kids, but for teens, there is the internet. We cannot deny the convenience the internet has given us, but this convenience, when abused and uncontrolled can lead to serious trouble. There are countless internet safety tips which readers can be familliar of, what we will be discussing today are tips focused on protecting your kids and teens from the perils of internet surfing. Tip number 1: Educate your child on the risks involved. To do this, the parents or guardians themselves must know the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the internet. Parents must be familiarized with social networks, chatrooms, and other sites wherein there is an avenue for sharing personal information as these are often the areas where criminals find and lure their victims.
