The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) set up the website http:// www.cbcponline.net/visitaiglesia/ that features seven Metro Manila churches showing their facades and interiors. The site is also a multimedia prayer guide to the stations of the cross. The user can see the Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, Quiapo Church, San Lorenzo Ruiz Church, Tondo Church, Malate Church and Baclaran Church. In the website www.inquirer.net, CBCP spokesperson Msgr. Pedro Quitorio said that the online Visita Iglesia was intended for overseas Filipino workers living in non-Catholic countries and those who cannot physically visit churches. It was not intended for those capable of going to the churches and who just want to stay at home, he said. It is certainly not an excuse for anyone who simply wants to stay home but is well capable of doing his obligations for the Holy Week. Share...

Auza.Net will start its Website Design Contest 2010 this summer and to make the contest more exciting, the following contest rules will be implemented: 1. Contestants must be students who are not yet college graduates, except for October 2009 and March 2010 college graduates who are still allowed to join. 2. Each contestant must get a sponsoring organization or company and the website to be designed will be for that sponsor. 3. Only WordPress as CMS is allowed and only plugins and themes downloadable from within WordPress are allowed. All valid contest entries will be hosted by Auza.Net. 4. Included in the criteria for judging is the number of votes received via the contest web page. 5. Also included in the criteria is the popularity of the entry as measured in number of unique viewers by Google Analytics. More detailed rules will be published later. Students who wish to join the contest must now start looking for a sponsor whose company or organization needs a new website or needs a redesign. The Internet is a relatively new media, yet it has introduced new business models that shattered long-standing ones. Books, CDs and practically anything that can be packaged and shipped may now be sold online. Publishers create online versions of their newspapers and magazines then sold online advertisement to companies targetting the audience of their publications. How can online advertising help my business? Isn’t my website enough? The most important thing in online advertising is targetting your market. You can’t just have your ad displayed on millions of users in Facebook for example and expect a significant sales increase if you don’t target the audience properly. For example, if you are a luxury resort or hotel operator in Panglao, Bohol, you probably should target US and Europe users from age 30 to 60 who are professionals or businessmen and not users below 20 who are in developing countries. If you offer services targetted to OFWs or balikbayans, then online sites of local publications or radio (like www.dyrdam.com or www.boholnewsdaily.com) would be the ideal websites for your ad placements. The reason for this is that these websites are being viewed regularly by Boholanos around the world with the largest group from California, USA. If your ads appear regularly on these sites, then the users will have much better recall of your services when they go to Bohol for a vacation. Auza.Net will start conducting interviews of applicants for its Summer 2010 OJT Program on March 23, 2010. Applicants who have already sent their applications will be notified via text or call. Those accepted to the program will go through various training sessions including web services using WordPress, network setup and open source technologies. They will also be involved in breakthrough projects that may become commercial applications later. The OJT program projects in the past led to various success stories that include the DYRD- AM worldwide broadcast, WiFi authentication system and embedded systems, all of these, among others, are currently being used by Auza.Net for the services it offers its clients. The company believes that exposure to real-world application or system integration will help the trainees gain confidence and experience that will help them qualify for exciting jobs when they graduate. Many graduates who were OJT’s of the company are now hired in various industries. Auza.Net itself hired several of its former OJTs for full time positions for software development and network administration. Applications are still accepted until March 26, 2010 and the program will start on April 5, 2010, however, due to the volume of applications, the company will evaluate applications on a first come, first served basis. Students must be candidates for graduation during the school year 2010-2011, taking engineering or IT related courses. Students taking other courses may apply provided they are proficient with computers, Internet and IT concepts in general. By BEGT Zabala/PGMA The country raked in $ 7.3 billion in 2009 in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Business Processing and Outsourcing (BPO), which has livened up regional economies by stimulating business which provided half a million jobs in key cities and provinces such as Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo, Bacolod and Davao since 2000 in the cyber corridor. But Bohol up to now hasn’t much reaped from this boom as with it’s neighboring provinces, despite active promotion and linkages with prospective investors. Though learning institutions have enhanced their curriculum to capacitate their students in having even the requisite skills to make it in the ICT industry somehow, not many Boholanos are able to make the cut. Clearly showing that much is needed to be done in further improving the ICT manpower skills of the Boholanos. Add to it, the lack of large suitable areas for infrastructure both for locators and for training centers as well. Thus, big players in the industry somehow cannot yet find it feasible to locate. This was one of the key points of discussions by the council members of the Bohol Information and Communication Technology Council (BICTC) Meeting held at the Department of Industry Bohol Provincial Office last Wednesday March 10, 2010 as the council reviewed it’s plans and programs to prepare for the next steps in making Bohol take full advantage of the ICT/BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) boom and exploit it as one of the poverty reduction strategies in further moving the province up among the ranks of the country’s richest provinces. The Bohol Table Tennis Club held an open table tennis tournament at the K of C Recreation Center on January 30, 2010. The tournament was well attended with players from elementary, high school and adult categories. The tournament was conducted in a double elimination format and was sponsored in part by Baba Yap. Tournament results will be published on www.boholnewsdaily.com after the tournament and in this page next week. This tournament is the first of a series of tournaments the club will organize in cooperation with the K of C Recreation Center. Club president Peter Namata, said that a round-robin format tournament is planned for the summer of this year. In addition, a table tennis training program has started already and table tennis enthusiasts who want to develop their skills further are encouraged to join.
